AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Bar Beach South is a naturally enclosed, netted beach tucked inside the Narooma Bar breakwalls on the Eurobodalla coast, and one of the safest places for children to learn swimming and snorkelling in regional NSW. Its 360-metre curve of sand faces east out a narrow channel, so only gentle ripples reach the shore while deeper currents stay well offshore.↗↗↗
Just beside the beach, Apex Park provides barbecues, covered picnic tables, a playground and generous parking, making it easy to combine a calm-water swim with a relaxed family day out. A boardwalk along Wagonga Inlet even links the beach to Narooma township for a scenic post-swim stroll.↗
A Sheltered Lagoon for Little Legs
The Wagonga Inlet meets the Tasman Sea at a pair of stone breakwalls that create a natural harbour on their southern flank. Bar Beach South occupies the pocket of sand between the northern wall and an internal channel wall, a position so enclosed that the water is almost always glassy. A swimming net stretches across the northern corner of the beach, keeping swimmers clear of the deeper inlet channel and its tidal currents, which sit about 100 metres offshore against the southern wall.
