AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Dichterhaus Brückner-Kühner is the preserved home and workplace of the German writer couple Christine Brückner and Otto Heinrich Kühner, now a small literary museum and memorial in the garden settlement of Auefeld in southern Kassel. Far from a glass-case institution, it invites visitors into ordinary rooms where two of post-war Germany's most distinctive literary voices lived and wrote for three decades.↗↗
You explore the house through guided tours and live events, so a visit feels less like a museum circuit and more like an intimate conversation about literature, marriage and the writing life in the second half of the twentieth century.↗↗↗

A Poets' House in the Garden City of Auefeld
In 1965 Christine Brückner, later made an honorary citizen of Kassel, bought a modest terraced house on Hans-Böckler-Straße 5 in the Gartenstadt Auefeld, a green settlement built between 1955 and 1960 that is now under heritage protection. Two years later Otto Heinrich Kühner, her second husband, moved north from southern Germany to join her. Until both died in 1996, this small house was their shared centre of life and work.
