AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Hidden in a small valley near the Hérault river, the Font de Bézombes Botanical Garden is a two-hectare private paradise where a retired nurseryman turned his lifelong passion for plants into seven distinct garden styles — from tropical and Chinese to desert and marsh — all fed by an abundant natural spring.↗↗
Created in the 1990s by Gérard Simon on a site he had cultivated since 1972, the garden offers an intimate, guided experience with resident peacocks, swans, and ducks wandering among the pathways. Visitors consistently praise the warmth of the hosts and the astonishing variety of planting, making this one of the Languedoc's most rewarding off-the-beaten-track discoveries.↗↗

From Nursery to Living Garden
Gérard Simon worked as a nurseryman on this site from 1972. At retirement, rather than leaving the land fallow, he undertook a remarkable transformation: 10,000 cubic meters of earth were removed to soften the natural slopes, ponds were dug to capture the abundant spring that gives the valley its name (font means spring in Occitan), and a lifetime of botanical knowledge was reshaped into a landscape garden. Existing trees that predated the nursery were preserved as mature anchors for the new plantings.
