AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Peer in (styled Peer In Gallery) is a small, photography-focused art space tucked away on the Elandstraat in The Hague's Zeeheldenkwartier. Rather than a white-cube museum, it occupies the former concierge's house of the Grote Pyr—a monumental old school building—and turns its windows and display cases into an ever-changing stage for contemporary photographers.↗↗
The whole idea is deliberately low-threshold: you don't need a ticket or an appointment to meet the work. A casual passer-by can stop on the pavement, press close to the glass and let the images wash over them, while the gallery's interior rooms open up for special programme items such as exhibition launches and talks.↗↗

Photography at street level
What makes Peer in unusual is its setting and its spirit. Housed in the gatekeeper's lodge of the Grote Pyr, a stately heritage school in the residential Zeeheldenkwartier, the gallery shows photography in the building's windows and vitrines. The point is to bring the work of contemporary photographers into contact with the public in the easiest possible way—no formalities, no queue, just the street and the glass.
