AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Høgevarde Fjellpark is a compact, family-friendly mountain resort near Flå in the Buskerud highlands of Norway, built around a single hill that delivers downhill skiing, a lively children's area and a fast-growing network of summer mountain-bike trails. Rated around 4.6 stars by visitors, it trades the crowds and scale of big alpine centres for something friendlier and closer to Oslo-region families: a quick, characterful day out on the snow or on two wheels.↗
In winter the ski area packs a surprising spread of terrain into 212 metres of vertical drop, with five runs served by four surface lifts, including gentle nursery slopes and a dedicated magic-carpet zone for little ones at the base. In summer the same slopes transform into the Høgevarde Trail Centre, an expanding park of purpose-built mountain-bike lines—over 20 km of them, including an 18 km flow trail that runs all the way down to Gulsvik—alongside fishing, saunas, hiking, disc golf and a calendar of events.↗↗↗
A mountain playground for all seasons
Høgevarde sits at roughly 1,000 metres at its summit, with its base at about 790 metres, so it catches real snow and keeps an alpine feel while remaining easy to reach for a weekend escape. What makes it worth the trip is the way one hill serves two very different audiences. Ski families come for the relaxed, manageable slopes and the warm, sociable base area; cyclists and outdoor types come in the warmer months to ride a trail network that the resort openly pitches as one of the largest in Europe and that is growing year by year.
