AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Hesjedalsfossen is a striking twin waterfall plunging roughly 70–80 metres from the Hesjedalselva river into Eidsfjorden, a side arm of Norway's Osterfjord, in Vaksdal municipality near Bergen. Unusually, you can see both cascades clearly from the roadside — no trail walk required — making it one of the most accessible dramatic waterfalls in western Norway.↗↗↗
The waterfall sits right along county road 569 between the hamlets of Stamnes and Eidslandet, and is a recommended detour for anyone driving through Nordhordland. Its powerful flow peaks during spring snowmelt and after heavy rain, while the narrow, tunnel-dotted road itself — completed in 1930 and now considered a technical cultural heritage — adds to the sense of a remote, unspoiled fjord landscape.↗↗
