AT A GLANCE
Why go?
El Enrejado is a small, leafy public park on Sta. Eulalia 379 in the Víctor Larco Herrera district of Trujillo, on Peru's northern La Libertad coast. Open around the clock and rated by locals as a calm place to stroll, play ball or sit out the heat with family, it is the kind of everyday neighbourhood green that gives a coastal Peruvian city its rhythm.↗↗
The name — literally "the grille" or "the lattice" — nods to the metal fencing that has long enclosed many of Trujillo's parks, fitted by neighbourhoods over the years as a security and anti-littering measure. Today El Enrejado reads less as a gated space than as a welcoming open lawn: a sports court, plenty of planting and benches under the shade, the simple pleasures of a local recreation ground.↗↗

A neighbourhood green in Víctor Larco Herrera
Víctor Larco Herrera sits just west of central Trujillo, close to the airport and the road out toward the coast, and like much of the city it is a grid of urbanizaciones — residential blocks — each organised around a small park. El Enrejado is one of those pocket parks, compact and informal rather than a grand civic square. It is best thought of as the living room of the surrounding streets: a patch of grass, trees and a hard-surface court where residents come to unwind rather than a monument to plan a day around.
