Övre Gävjan
Övre Gävjan is a small, shallow forest lake sitting at 131 metres above sea level in Skinnskatteberg municipality, deep in the woodland of western Västmanland's Bergslagen region. Barely half a square kilometre across with a shoreline of just under five kilometres, it is the kind of low-key tarn that rewards visitors who come for still water, coniferous silence and a quiet line in the shallows rather than grand scenery. The lake's real character is that of a working, monitored fishery: it is part of the Gävjan chain drained by the Gisslarboån, and the county fishing and water-monitoring records list perch, pike, ide and roach among its catches. For an angler in Bergslagen, that makes Övre Gävjan a pleasant, unshowy stop in a municipality laced with 244 lakes and streams.
