Pěchotní srub T-S 54 "Nad dráhou"
Perched on the edge of a meadow about a hundred metres above the railway line near Petříkovice, the T-S 54 “Nad dráhou” is a preserved Czechoslovak heavy border fortification that has been turned into a small military-history museum. Built in the summer of 1938 as part of the pre-war line of concrete bunkers facing Nazi Germany, the blockhouse is now lovingly restored by the volunteer KVH Petříkovice club, who aim to bring it back to something close to the state it would have had when complete in 1939. The site is deliberately framed around a sober question of history: how a small country tried to fortify itself against a far stronger neighbour. Its own walls quote German field marshal Erich von Manstein admitting, at Nuremberg in 1946, that the Wehrmacht had almost no means to break the Czechoslovak fortifications, alongside a line from first president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk about honourable versus enslaved life. For anyone interested in 20th-century military engineering, the Trutnov foothills, or quietly moving heritage projects run by enthusiasts, this compact museum is a rewarding detour.
