Saint Louis Zoo
The Saint Louis Zoo is a 90-acre, free-admission zoo in Forest Park that draws roughly 3 million visitors a year from around the world. Home to more than 18,000 animals across 600+ species, it was voted America's best zoo by USA Today in both 2017 and 2018. Founded in 1910 from a structure saved after the 1904 World's Fair, it holds the distinction of being the first municipally supported zoo in the world. The zoo spans six distinct zones—Historic Hill, River's Edge, The Wild, Lakeside Crossing, Discovery Corner, and Red Rocks—each transporting visitors to a different ecosystem. World-class exhibits include a deep-water polar bear habitat, an open-air penguin coast, an underwater sea lion tunnel, and treetop primate trails where you walk among the canopy at eye level with monkeys and lemurs.
