AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Saint Louis Zoo is a 90-acre, free-admission zoo in Forest Park that draws roughly 3 million visitors a year from around the world. Home to more than 18,000 animals across 600+ species, it was voted America's best zoo by USA Today in both 2017 and 2018. Founded in 1910 from a structure saved after the 1904 World's Fair, it holds the distinction of being the first municipally supported zoo in the world.↗↗
The zoo spans six distinct zones—Historic Hill, River's Edge, The Wild, Lakeside Crossing, Discovery Corner, and Red Rocks—each transporting visitors to a different ecosystem. World-class exhibits include a deep-water polar bear habitat, an open-air penguin coast, an underwater sea lion tunnel, and treetop primate trails where you walk among the canopy at eye level with monkeys and lemurs.↗↗
