AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Intersect Arts Center is a non-profit creative hub on Texas Avenue in south St. Louis, where a public gallery, a working makers' campus and a neighbourhood youth programme share one address. Its mission—"enriching place and people through the arts"—shows in the way it mixes exhibition walls, ceramics wheels, a woodshop and dance studio under a single roof, then opens them to everyone from toddlers on field trips to professional artists renting private studios upstairs.↗↗↗
What draws visitors is the sense that nothing here is behind velvet rope. You can wander a thoughtfully curated exhibition, watch pottery being thrown in the busy first-floor ceramics studio, drop into a free Saturday woodshop, or catch a Dovetail event where musicians, dancers and poets respond live to the show on the walls. With a 4.8 rating from its community, Intersect has become one of the city's most welcoming, hands-on art destinations.↗↗
