Slunečná lookout
Slunečná (meaning "the Sunny one") is a strikingly sculptural wooden observation tower that rises from the vineyards above Velké Pavlovice in South Moravia's wine country. Opened in May 2009 after just eight weeks of construction, the 18.6-metre tower leans at an unusual angle toward the town below, its form deliberately evoking a bush of grapevine. Climb its 75 steps to a platform 15 metres up and you are rewarded with a sweeping panorama across the flat, sun-warmed landscape toward the Pálava hills, the Lednice minaret and, on clear days, the first slopes of the Slovak Carpathians. Free to enter and open around the clock, it sits within a small, thoughtfully designed tourist area among the vines on the Modré Hory cycle route—making it an easy and photogenic stop for cyclists, walkers and wine-country day-trippers exploring the Velké Pavlovice region.
