AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Slunečná (meaning "the Sunny one") is a strikingly sculptural wooden observation tower that rises from the vineyards above Velké Pavlovice in South Moravia's wine country. Opened in May 2009 after just eight weeks of construction, the 18.6-metre tower leans at an unusual angle toward the town below, its form deliberately evoking a bush of grapevine. Climb its 75 steps to a platform 15 metres up and you are rewarded with a sweeping panorama across the flat, sun-warmed landscape toward the Pálava hills, the Lednice minaret and, on clear days, the first slopes of the Slovak Carpathians.↗↗↗↗
Free to enter and open around the clock, it sits within a small, thoughtfully designed tourist area among the vines on the Modré Hory cycle route—making it an easy and photogenic stop for cyclists, walkers and wine-country day-trippers exploring the Velké Pavlovice region.↗↗↗
