Upper Lake
Upper Lake is a small, secluded alpine lake tucked into Hell Canyon in Colorado's Indian Peaks Wilderness. Reached via a 12-mile round-trip hike from the Roaring Fork Trailhead, it rewards those willing to venture off the main trail with dramatic views of the imposing Hiamovi Tower and a rare sense of solitude in a wilderness area famous for its busier destinations. The lake sits just above its neighbor Stone Lake, connected by a shallow channel of water flowing between them. Together they form one of the Indian Peaks' most overlooked gems — a place where the crowds thin out, the stars blaze undimmed, and a multi-day backcountry trip can feel genuinely wild.
