Defeng Temple
Defeng Temple (德峰寺) is a small Taoist temple in the quiet village of Zhufeng, tucked within Nantou County's famous tea-growing Lugu Valley. Founded in the mid-18th century, it enshrines the Patriarch of Remorse (慚愧祖師), a Tang Dynasty monk whose worship has become one of central Taiwan's most distinctive folk-religious traditions. What makes this temple remarkable is its connection to the broader Chan Kuei Patriarch worship network across Lugu Township—sixteen local temples share this devotion, and Defeng Temple participates in a major annual festival that brings the entire valley together.
