AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Iglatjärnen is a small forest lake nestled in the hilly woodland near Fjärås, in Kungsbacka municipality on Sweden's Halland coast. Covering just four hectares and sitting at 100 metres above sea level, it is the kind of quiet, easily overlooked pond that makes this part of southwest Sweden so pleasant to walk through.↗↗
The lake lies within reach of the Hallandsleden long-distance trail and the celebrated Fjärås Bräcka glacial ridge, making it a peaceful waypoint for hikers exploring one of Halland's richest walking landscapes.↗
A Quiet Forest Lake
Iglatjärnen is what the Swedish word tjärn describes best: a modest, intimate lake hemmed in by pine and spruce forest. At just 0.04 square kilometres with a maximum depth of 10.3 metres and an average depth of 3.4 metres, it is small enough to walk around in a few minutes yet deep enough to hold clear, cool water through the summer. Situated at 100 metres above sea level, it drains into the Rolfsån river system and the Kungsbackaån catchment, contributing to a landscape shaped over thousands of years by glacial melt and slow forest growth.
