Gylet

Gylet is a serene swimming lake nestled in the forested hills of Gylsboda, just south of Lönsboda in Skåne. Known for its calm waters and tranquil setting, it offers a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and those interested in the region's unique industrial heritage. The area around Gylet is rich in history, shaped by the diabase mining industry that flourished in the late 19th century. Today, visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the lake while exploring the remnants of this fascinating past, including the preserved railway station and worker housing.

Isovaara

Isovaara is a compact hillside nature reserve that rises straight out of the northern Swedish village of Övertorneå. Locally known as Storberget, "the Big Mountain," it is a treasured everyday escape for residents and a rewarding short outing for travellers following the Torne river valley through Norrbotten. Protected since 1968 and part of the European Natura 2000 network, the 2.2-square-kilometre area pairs tidy hiking trails with genuinely old boreal forest. The reward at the top is a 174-metre summit crowned by a rest cabin with a fireplace, from which the view opens wide across the Torne älvdal, one of Sweden's great wild-river landscapes. It is the kind of place that asks only a moderate effort and repays you with panorama, birdsong and a sense of standing above the valley.

Öcketjärn

Öcketjärn is a small forest lake tucked into the vast Lögdö Wild area in Västernorrland, Sweden — a quiet destination for anglers seeking wild brown trout among the birches and pines. Part of the SCA-managed wilderness that spans approximately 100,000 hectares, this tjärn (as Swedes call these intimate forest ponds) offers a genuine back-to-nature fishing experience far from the crowds. Unlike the stocked Put & Take lakes in the Lögdö Wild system, Öcketjärn belongs to the category of natural waters where wild fish stocks thrive. Visitors report catching brown trout, pike, and perch in its calm waters, and a wind shelter stands ready for those who want to stay a while regardless of the Swedish weather.

Jängtjärn

Jängtjärn is a small lake just outside Malung in Dalarna's forested interior, run as a managed put-and-take rainbow trout fishery rather than a wild trophy water. It is the kind of quiet, easygoing spot local anglers drift to for an afternoon on the bank: a stocked trout lake, a clearing to cast from, and the hush of surrounding Dalarna woodland. The setting is unpretentious and the appeal is simple — reliable fishing within easy reach of Malung.

Furuträsket

Furuträsket is a small, quiet forest lake sitting at 186 metres above sea level in Överkalix municipality, deep in Norrbotten in northern Sweden. Barely 30 hectares across with about 2.2 kilometres of shoreline, it is the kind of subarctic woodland water you come to for silence, birdsong and the open sky rather than for any built-up attraction. What makes it special to a visitor is its setting: the lake lies inside the Brändknösarna nature reserve, its waters drain toward the mighty Kalixälven and on to the Gulf of Bothnia, and the Arctic Circle passes only a few kilometres away. It is a destination for fishing, hiking and slow nature time on the edge of the far north, far from the crowds.
