AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Jängtjärn is a small lake just outside Malung in Dalarna's forested interior, run as a managed put-and-take rainbow trout fishery rather than a wild trophy water. It is the kind of quiet, easygoing spot local anglers drift to for an afternoon on the bank: a stocked trout lake, a clearing to cast from, and the hush of surrounding Dalarna woodland. The setting is unpretentious and the appeal is simple — reliable fishing within easy reach of Malung.↗↗
A stocked trout water, not a wilderness quest
The reason people come to Jängtjärn is put-and-take rainbow trout fishing. The water is restocked regularly — roughly every two to three weeks through the season — so there is generally a fresh batch of fish waiting and a real chance of a bite on a normal day. Most of what is released is plate-sized trout in the 600 g to 1.2 kg range, but with every stocking the organisers also add a handful of much larger "bonus" fish of 3 to 5 kg, which is what keeps experienced anglers coming back to test their luck for a personal best.↗
Across a season the fishery releases on the order of 800 kg of trout, with heavier drops in the shoulder months of spring and autumn. That steady input is the whole point of a P&T lake: you are not reading wild water and hoping the fish are there, you are fishing a water that is deliberately kept bitey. For families, beginners and anyone with a spare afternoon rather than a week, that predictability is the draw.
