AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Stortjärn is a small, beautifully kept fishing lake run by the volunteer-led Lillpite Fiskevårdsförening, tucked between the hamlets of Yttersta and Storsund in Piteå municipality in northern Sweden. It is the association's flagship put-and-take water: stocked every fortnight through the warm months with rainbow trout, brown trout and Arctic char, alongside native pike and perch, and open to anglers all year round.↗↗↗
What sets Stortjärn apart is how welcoming and well-equipped it is for a single day out or a slow weekend by the water. There is a cosy six-berth rental cabin with a wood-fired sauna to hire, caravan and motorhome pitches, grill spots with stacked firewood, and lean-tos and fire rings scattered around the shoreline. The site is also genuinely barrier-free, with a long accessible ramp leading to a spacious fishing platform on the lake, making it one of the most wheelchair-friendly fishing destinations in the region.↗↗
