AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Utsiktspunkt Klädesholmen — the Klädesholmen Viewpoint — is a short, easy climb to a hilltop vantage on a tiny herring island off Tjörn in southern Bohuslän. From the top you look out over the open western sea and across the island's jumble of red-painted sheds and white wooden cottages packed down to the harbour. Visitors describe the view over the water as lovely and the walk up to the summit as effortless — the kind of spot where you reach the top, the wind takes over, and the whole archipelago spreads in front of you.↗↗↗
What makes the viewpoint special is its setting. Klädesholmen is famously a place made for walking: houses that huddle behind bare rocks and against each other for shelter, narrow winding alleys threaded with climbing gardens, and the sea present in every direction, shifting with the passing weather. The viewpoint is the best single look at that whole scene — a granite outcrop above one of Sweden's most photographed fishing villages.↗↗
The climb to the sea view
The hike to Utsiktspunkt Klädesholmen is short and straightforward — there is no demanding ascent, just a walk up onto the island's high ground, where a reviewer writes that 'the winds whisper your name.' It is the kind of viewpoint you can reach in ordinary shoes and still feel like you have climbed something, because at the top the land simply stops and the North Sea opens out.
