AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Sai Than Thamm (the name means "Stream of Dhamma") is a small Thai Buddhist meditation practice hall and monastic residence set in the countryside of Lat Krathing sub-district, in Sanam Chai Khet district of Chachoengsao province. Rather than a grand historic temple, it is a working retreat place where laypeople come to listen to teachings, make merit and practise meditation in a calm rural setting.↗
The site is registered as a phak thipak song, a simple monastic residence that has grown into a recognised place of dhamma practice, with around five monks in residence during the annual Rains Retreat and a caretaker-abbot guiding the community. Its appeal lies in that unhurried, village-temple atmosphere and the chance to share in everyday monastic life far from the busier tourist temples.
A quiet place of practice
Sai Than Thamm belongs to the network of samnak patibat thamm—dhamma practice centres established under Thai Sangha rules to give laypeople a place to study and meditate. These centres are usually modest and outward-facing, built around a meeting hall, simple monks' quarters and open grounds rather than ornate monuments, and Sai Than Thamm in Lat Krathing fits that profile as a low-key rural retreat focused on practice and community.
