AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Wat Dong Sa Phang Thong is a beloved village temple in the Nong Na Kham area on the northeastern edge of Udon Thani city. Established in 1937, it serves as the spiritual heart of Ban Nong Sai community and is known locally for the abbot's generosity toward underprivileged families.↗↗
The temple carries the Maha Nikaya tradition and received its royal ordination-hall boundary (wisunghamsima) in 1997, a milestone that formalized its role as a full monastic community. Today around eight monks reside here during the rainy-season retreat.↗↗
A Temple Rooted in Community Service
What sets Wat Dong Sa Phang Thong apart from many village temples is the reputation of its abbot, Phra Athikan Pracha Pabhassaro. Under his leadership, the temple has provided free ordination ceremonies and cremation services for families who cannot afford them, and has directed donation funds toward building homes for the poorest residents of the surrounding village. For locals, this is not merely a place of worship but a social safety net woven into the fabric of monastic life.
