AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Beyler Creek (Beylerderesi) cuts through the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya in eastern Turkey, creating one of the city's most treasured green corridors. Fed by the Derme Suyu stream, the creek valley is home to a sprawling urban park, a hidden 5-metre waterfall, and family-run garden restaurants — a surprisingly lush escape just 15 km from the Malatya city centre.↗↗
The creek has become a focal point for Yeşilyurt's recreation strategy: a three-phase City Park with cycling paths, an open-air defence museum and thousands of planted trees already operates along its banks, while a major new 360-million-lira Life Valley project is transforming the corridor between the historic Çırmıhtı neighbourhood and the Abdulhamithan Bridge into a continuous walking and cycling promenade with viewing terraces and landscaped green space.↗↗
A Green Heart in Eastern Anatolia
Yeşilyurt sits in the Upper Euphrates Basin where three climate zones converge, giving it a milder character than much of eastern Anatolia. In spring, the hillsides around Beyler Creek erupt in apricot and cherry blossom, and the waterway itself threads through a valley the municipality calls a natural wonder rarely matched elsewhere in Turkey. Locals have long used the creek corridor for picnics, strolls, and cooling off on hot summer afternoons.
