Hançerli
Hançerli is a small village about 10 kilometres from central Niğde, set on the high Anatolian plateau at roughly 1,530 metres. Listed on Google Maps as a historical landmark, its heart is a remarkable early-19th-century church built entirely of dark cut basalt that still serves today as the village mosque—a stone monument to the Greek-speaking Orthodox community, the Karamanlıs, who once lived here. Beyond the church-mosque, Hançerli rewards curious travellers with Karamanlı-inscribed fountains, an old communal washhouse and the ruins of a Byzantine monastery to the northeast, all wrapped in a living village famous across Turkey for its Dermason beans.
