AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Yeşilsırt Pond (Yeşilsırt Göleti) is a small rural body of water on the edge of the village of Yeşilsırt in Muratlı district, Tekirdağ Province. It serves as a vital watering point for livestock and an irrigation resource for local farmers, set in the open Thracian plain landscape typical of Turkish Thrace.↗↗
Though not a developed tourist attraction, the pond is notable for its dramatic seasonal cycle and its role as a lifeline for the surrounding agricultural community. When rains fill it, birds return to feed along its shores, making it a quiet spot for observing the small wildlife of the Thracian countryside.↗↗
A Working Pond in the Thracian Plain
Yeşilsırt Pond sits in a flat, agricultural landscape on the eastern edge of Yeşilsırt village, roughly 12 kilometers from Tekirdağ city center and 6 kilometers from the district town of Muratlı. The village itself was originally established as a farmstead in the 1890s, and the pond has long been integral to the rhythm of rural life here—providing water for animals and supporting crops through drier months.
