AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Hongluxi Fude Temple (烘爐隙福德廟) is a small neighborhood Earth God temple tucked into Laiyuan Village on the forested eastern edge of Wufeng, in Taichung's southern 'Azhawu' hills. 'Hongluxi' is the old local place-name for this hollow, and 'Fude' refers to Fude Zhengshen—the benevolent Earth God who, in everyday Taiwanese folk religion, watches over a particular patch of land, its fields, homes and small businesses. There is no grand gateway or tourist signage here; instead it functions the way village land-god shrines have for generations: as the quiet spiritual address of the surrounding hamlet.↗↗
What draws a visitor is atmosphere and location rather than spectacle. This sits in one of Wufeng's smallest and greenest villages, a hillside area famous for the morning mist that gave the district its old name, and within easy reach of the Wufeng Lin family's Lai Garden—Taiwan's storied 'garden of the colored robe' and one of the island's four great historic gardens. For anyone exploring Wufeng's heritage, markets and mountain trails, the temple is a genuine, still-used folk shrine set among orchards and ridgelines, rated warmly by the few travelers who have posted about it.↗
