AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked away on Jervey Avenue in Charleston's West Ashley, the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center—run by the nonprofit STCC of SC—is the Lowcountry's permanent home for Sanatana Dharma worship. Open to people of every background, it brings the rhythms of an Indian temple to the South: morning and evening aarati, weekly abhishekams, lively festivals, and a calm, prayerful atmosphere that visitors describe as a welcome refuge from the everyday.↗↗
Founded by a dedicated group of Indian diaspora families who first opened their doors in 2009 and later purchased a purpose-built temple home, the center serves as far more than a place of prayer. It hosts pujas to Shiva, Hanuman, Kartikeya, Venkateshwara and others, lifecycle ceremonies from naming ceremonies to weddings, classes on the Bhagavad Gita and yoga, and community events that draw both devoted families and curious newcomers.↗↗
