AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Philo T. Farnsworth Memorial is a bronze statue on the One Letterman campus in San Francisco's Presidio, honoring the man widely credited with inventing electronic television. Sculpted by Lawrence Noble and installed in 2008, it depicts Farnsworth deep in concentration, holding a cathode ray tube and patent schematics, with an early television set beside him. The memorial sits within a 23-acre creative campus designed around a 17-acre public meadow with views of the Palace of Fine Arts and the Golden Gate Bridge.↗↗↗↗
For anyone who grew up watching TV — or who now streams everything on a phone — the statue is a quietly powerful reminder that an entire medium was born from one inventor's vision, worked out in a small San Francisco lab nearly a century ago.↗
