AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Blodgett Lake is a tiny, low-key natural lake tucked into Caledonia Township in Kent County, Michigan, just north of the Saskatoon Golf Club. At roughly ten to thirteen surface acres, it is small enough to walk around in under an hour and quiet enough to feel like a neighborhood secret, far from the busier resort lakes of the region.↗↗↗
Its appeal is simplicity: a shallow, weedy freshwater pool ringed by homes and woods, popular with anglers working the bank, paddlers who carry in a canoe or kayak, and anyone wanting an easy, uncrowded slice of West Michigan lake country within a short drive of Grand Rapids.↗↗
A small lake with a big sense of calm
Blodgett Lake sits in the rolling, lake-studded heart of Kent County, one of more than a hundred named lakes in the area yet among the smallest, ranking well down the list by surface area. The water is a low-lying, soft-bottomed pool with a shoreline of only about six-tenths of a mile, which means there is no vast open expanse to cross—instead the whole lake reads as an intimate, framed view, the kind of place where a lap on foot or a short paddle feels complete rather than exhausting.
