AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Little Falls Lake is a 170-acre flowage nestled within Willow River State Park near Hudson, Wisconsin. With roughly five miles of mostly undeveloped shoreline, a public beach, and a non-motorized boat launch, it offers a quiet water escape that pairs naturally with the park's famous three-tiered waterfall, hiking trails, and campgrounds.↗↗
The lake is a recovering success story: after its dam was rebuilt and the water body refilled in 2019–2020, fish habitat was deliberately installed on the lakebed. Today, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and yellow perch are thriving, making Little Falls Lake a rewarding destination for casual and serious anglers alike.↗
A Lake Inside a State Park
Little Falls Lake is the water heart of Willow River State Park, one of Wisconsin's most popular state parks. The 172-acre flowage was created when Willow River was dammed, forming a shallow, hard-water lake with a maximum depth of 18 feet. Its upper reaches include a flooded river channel and delta, giving the shoreline a varied character that shifts from open water to marshy shallows. With only about 4.86 miles of shoreline and most of it undeveloped, the lake feels far more wild than its proximity to the Twin Cities metro area might suggest.
