Lets start with what seems to be a quirky Kiwi definition of 'Hotel'. It seems like any accommodation that has a bed and a bar is considered a Hotel in NZ. This is not so in Australia (or anywhere else in the world that I'm aware of) so be sure you are clear what sort of accommodation you are booking. LyLo Queenstown is NOT a hotel, it is a backpackers Hostel. Hotel bedrooms have a desk and a chair, cupboards for clothes, an iron and ironing board, a drinks fridge, etc. The 'private' rooms at LyLo do not. Not even a toilet brush! No drinking glass to use to brush your teeth or take meds. We were greeted by a single thin flimsy doonah in a fairly brisk climate and had to request more bedding. They even request you do their work for them and strip the bedding, which is to be placed in a very oddly placed hamper at the lift door. Not a very chic look. The walls between units are thin and uninsulated, so conversations can be heard in the next room. I doubt the fire rating between units is compliant, notwithstanding the heavy fire rated entry door. They have a rule which they 'claim' to be a restriction on their liquor licence, that one can only drink the alcohol they sell you. I think it is BS, I think it is a rip off for the 20 somethings that don't know better. There is no parking, so if you plan to have a vehicle, factor in off street parking rates. 'Cheap' and 'maximum profit' are the words that I associate with LyLo The one saving grace of this establishment is it's location. Close to the centre of the restaurants and bars and meeting places for bus pickups. It is nearly ideal. If you are over 25 and have some sense of what a real 'Hotel' is, do not book the LyLo. Not recommended.

Location is great. I never checked the communal space at the top as I was only there for 1 night, but it's definetly quite a small hostel. Bathrooms and toilets were suprisingly clean for a hostel, bedding how ever was very worn and old, but clean. From everything I could see in my one day I think it's great for a day or two, but if you are looking for a hostel for a bit longer, I think there are better ones in Queenstown

Everything in the hotel is fine. The room is fine, bathroom.. all good. Just all the people the work there are rude. In general. They never smile to you, not helpful with anything. They are literally just therein the reception doing absolutely nothing. I stayed for 6 nights, and all of them even the same.

The location is good. The location is just good. It feels like a seven-dwarf house, and my first impression was the dust on the bedside head. This isn't a hotel, it's a homestead. The bed is really small. It looks like it's for kids

For the price, this is a fantastic option if you don't need all the whistles and bells of a full hotel. They have plenty of rooms that are not dorm/pod-style, and book the ones with the balcony for the biggest space to spread out. We stayed there three times over two weeks and enjoyed the convenience to town, the cleanliness, the quiet (those concrete walls are fantastic for noise dampening), and the price (High for a hostel but super low for QT). The kitchen and bar are an added bonus.

I can grantee you that every visit I have been to Queenstown I have stayed here at least one of the nights. There was only one time where I had an issue with here where I arrived well after 1030pm for check in during a cold winter night and waited for a hour before I was able to get inside. After that stay I had left feedback and the manager was so prompt to follow up and rectify the issue and for that I am grateful. I have stayed in both individual pods and in the family rooms and honestly they are both great! The family room comes with 1 king bed and a bunk and we have always been able to accommodate 4 people without any issue not to mention it comes with a bathroom. The pods are also a hit as each person is able to have their own and price wise really affordable. Now everytime I bring someone new down they want at least one night to experience the pods. Clean sheets and facilities have always been pleasant when staying here. Thanks Lylo for always having us.

all negative reviews are valid! avoid at all costs!! first of all, the sheets are incomprehensible. there were stains and hair on my newly checked in pod. it’s almost like they don’t wash anything, absolutely disgusting. i’m assuming they just throw stuff in the wash and don’t properly make the beds. it’s all minimum effort. the bathrooms are atrocious. the toilets barely flush and it’s so run down. i lost my bath towel the one day. i asked for a new one and was told it would be $2… for a service i pay for!? LMAO i WISH i spent more money on anything else in the area. if you value basic hygiene, avoid! the one in auckland is soooo much better.
