Portuguese get noticeably better service than English speakers. Rooms are tiny. We were informed two days before arriving that there was no air conditioning and then our card was immediately charged to ensure we couldn’t cancel. We waited for 45 minutes after the checkin time for our rooms while Portuguese speakers arriving after us got their rooms first. Roosters and dogs woke us at 5 am and the noise continued until about 7 am. There is nothing close by to get a coffee or snack as the location is not convenient. There are definitely better places to stay in Sintra.

An incredibly peaceful haven with the centre of Sintra a short walk away. We arrived on a motorbike to a warm reception from the delightful manager ( I am SO sorry that we didn't get his name) at the front door and dropped our panniers while he guided us to it's private parking below the villa set in a hillside. The room and bathroom were beside the reception and breakfast rooms but it had an internal acoustic door with note advising to shut this at night. We heard nothing from outside our room and the villa was full!! Breakfast was delicious incl fresh fruits, yogurts, juices, cereals, meats, cheeses, eggs and sausages, and light cakes. The breakfast room (and reception room) was gorgeous, set in much greenery. Although full, we noted a sense of peace prevailed, created by the manager and his team. Well done.

Beautiful location with very friendly staff who take the time to give tips about Sintra. Nice pool to relax in after a day out. I will definitely come back again.

We had a lovely overnight stay in Das Murtas. The staff were very friendly and obliging and helped us with an issue that we had. The guesthouse had a lovely outlook, and a beautiful position for having breakfast. The breakfast itself was quite adequate. The guesthouse is an older established building, but has a lot of charm, and the rooms reflect that - ie don't expect a modern spacious room, but perfectly adequate. It does require a taxi to get to the castle, but this was easily done. We had a car, but it was easier (due to parking limitations) to catch a cab. There is a secure area in the premises for car parking. There are also walkable restaurants nearby. We had a nice dinner in one recommended by John. One last thing - the roosters get going very early

Pros - car park available within the grounds of the hotel. Quick downhill walk to the train station and easy access to the highway Disappointment - stain on the bedsheets

Does the job at reasonable price, but is outdated in several things. Friendly people and decent location. Pet friendly and kid friendly especially if pool is open

Location is nice and from the room balcony views of the mountains and the estate were nice. However, rooms are very old and they have a strong dampness smell. Mattress is very poor or cheap quality. They do not offer free water at the property. The paid water bottles are far and few in the fridge. No ice available for guests. This property charges a lot of money but does not spend much money to upkeep or maintain the property. Poorly staffed. Breakfast in the morning was very good though when actually you see 2 staff members working from 830 to 10 am. I will not stay here again.

I wish that I could rate this hotel higher as it has so much potential but unfortunately it falls down due to the lack of attention, maintenance and probably investment. |Check in was in a grand reception room, giving high expectations, the receptionist was very pleasant, there was excellent parking which was a real bonus for Sintra. Immediate impressions were good not only because of the reception and main building but there's a lovely pool and jacuzzi, we had booked a double room but we're given a 4 bed annex mini apartment set in beautiful gardens but this is where it went wrong the kitchen cupboards were in a poor condition with paint peeling, although it was designed for 4 there were only 2 miss matched wine glasses and no plates or bowls and very little cooking utensils and the net curtains were shabby, the shower was almost impossible to use without getting water all over the floor as you couldn't adjust the angle of the shower head and the hose was worn and leaking we had a lovely outdoor seating area with a table and 2 chairs but they were both damaged.|In the gardens we're sunbeds several of which were damaged and were always soaking wet as the gardens were watered each night by a spraying system that we could hear running in the middle of the night. |The breakfast was very good, in addition to the dining room a conservatory was used which was accessed by a short walk outside which if it had rained we would get wet, several chairs were wobbly and needed repairing. There was unsightly clutter in this patio area including several very large panes of glass leanings up the wall which could have been dangerous and access was tricky via a12 inch wide path which was raised as the correct access was blocked by a coffee machine in the conservatory. |In the garden was an ornamental fountain which was completely full of blanket weed which could have been easily rectified. |The staff were helpful and polite but everything was just a little shabby and neglected.
