The hotel itself is gorgeous. It has that boutique hotel charm while being in an amazing location. Very centrally located. However, the hospitality left a lot to be desired. The staff were nice but you could tell they were just going through the motions. At some points even filing their nails at reception. In regards to the room, it’s clearly a historic building so quirks are to be expected. Yet, you shouldn’t have to wait 10 minutes for the water to heat up. Plus, the portable AC unit did not function properly and kept us up at night. We booked a transfer to the airport directly with the hotel and the driver was angry the whole time. In a small vehicle and left the windows down the whole time which led to migraines due to fumes. Would not stay here again, despite the amazing location.

We loved our stay here! This is a really charming boutique hotel with just a few rooms, and a lovely rooftop area. They helped us arrange transfers from the airport and to Lake Atitlan. The hotel is in such a central location, it really can't be beat. Our room was lovely and very comfortable, with air conditioning. Breakfast was included and they were able to provide my husband and I a vegan option which was quite delicious. Agua pura is provided as well, which is really nice. Thank you so much for a great stay!!

Mestizo Antigua is a charming and intimate boutique hotel with only six rooms, giving it a peaceful and personal feel. Our room was beautifully appointed, with thoughtful details that make the stay comfortable and welcoming. One of the nicest surprises was the complimentary breakfast—delicious, fresh, and far better than we expected. We did experience some issues with the electronic codes for both our room door and the safety box, but the front desk staff handled everything quickly and graciously. They immediately provided us with physical keys instead, which resolved the problem without any hassle. Overall, it’s a lovely little hotel with great service and plenty of character. Would happily stay again!

Good service, nice welcome cocktails and attentive staff. Food was not as good as expected for the price, so that was disappointing. Good location! The rooms were ok but some points of improvement : the airco is noisy and sometimes it smells like humidity inside the bathroom.

We loved this hotel. There were a total of 6 rooms available. It was like the entire complex was our own little oasis. Breakfast was included daily during our stay and it was delicious. The rooms were not huge but the decor and architectural design was beautifully done. There were so many picturesque areas on the property and the rooftop was amazing. So many areas to relax and enjoy the views. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The location of the hotel was right in the heart of Antigua and close to the square. It was very walkable and the area was safw. We enjoyed our stay.

There are both pros and cons of the hotel, but I think overall we left feeling negatively about it due to the service and would not return. We booked round trip transportation and a private tour with them with Kelyn and then confirmed later with Moises 2 weeks prior, and then the night before the transportation. The transportation picking us up from Guatemala City never arrived. When we called them when the car was 10 mins late, they said “sorry the car is late it’s on the way”. When it was 30 minutes late, we called again and they said “no you didn’t book a car for now. The driver is busy”. We have to book an uber to go. In addition, they mentioned they were sending a Kia Sport, which only seats 5 people. We were a group of 5, so us plus the driver wouldn’t have been able to fit in the car anyway. When we arrived, they verbally apologized, but didn’t do anything else to compensate us. To take matters worse, I spoke in person and tried to confirm over writing the next day about our transport back to Guatemala City on checkout day. Again asking for transport for 5 people, but they gave us the price for a Kia Sport that would not fit all 5 of us. Later talking to them they said “yes you asked for 5 people and I told you this price but 5 people won’t fit in the car so you should upgrade to a can that’s triple the price”. At that point I was completely done with the service and asked to cancel everything and we booked and uber. Moises in particular seemed like he didn’t care at all about genuinely proving a good experience, just going through the motions. The private Pacaya tour we booked through them went well and we enjoyed it a lot. Pros: Comfy bed & quiet AC (however it’s a window unit) Cute interior & terrace Good breakfast (Lionel gave us great service on our second day!) Drinking water available in the lobby Cons: The piping in the bathroom must have been bad in room 2, because the bathrooms smelled like sewer gasses. They tried to tell us that the bad smell was the disinfectant they used to clean it (total bs) Hairdryer didn’t work well Room is on the smaller size, but not unreasonably small

We stayed for only a night but had already prior contact with the staff to organize luggage and service there is just phenomenal! Especially Moses, was such a big help and always so nice and helped us out quite a bit. The location of the Hotel is also perfect as it’s around the corner of almost all sights and restaurants. The facilities are also very nice and spacious.

We visited Antigua Guatamala for a wedding and a 3 night stay. We arrived late at night due to a delayed flight. This was not a problem. I emailed them with updates as soon as I knew and the gentleman on duty was waiting for us, opening the locked gate as soon as the Uber dropped us off. In addition, he walked us to our room, showing us what we needed to know about the combination door lock, the A/C, safe, hot water usage and filtered drinking water. The property is a 140 year old convent, lovingly restored to a peaceful retreat in the heart of Antigua. All 6 rooms face the courtyard, making them quiet and shielded from road noise. The bright atrium/courtyard also features a breakfast spot, a bar, multiple places to sit and relax, a restaurant and an attached chocolate/ice cream shop. There is also a rooftop deck with tables and views of the volcanos. Our ground floor room (#1) was spacious with 2 comfortable queen beds. The ensuite bathroom was small with a walk-in shower. Daily housekeeping kept the room immaculately clean. Breakfast was included and with a variety of made-to-order choices from local favorites to American breakfast. There was also a lighter option of a fruit, granola and yogurt bowl. Everything was delicious. I feel I have to explain why I gave them four stars, not five. We are seasoned world travelers, over 60 and a little spoiled. I was not expecting our stay in Guatamala to contain the same amenities as other places. Different cultures, different economies, different ecology. The absence of some comfort amenities we are used to did not ruin our stay, but warranted one less star in my review. If you visit Antigua, Mestizo delivers a good value, great location and warm, gracious staff. I recommend it highly.
