I’d give this hotel six stars if I could. Excellent service, great room, free luggage storage, wonderful staff. Onsen was an added bonus, although our son couldn’t partake because of his tattoos.

Hotel Arthur has comfortable, newly refurbished rooms. Breakfast was with a view from its 10th floor restaurant. Spectacular burning of Ogiyama during spring was amazing reason to visit Beppu.

The hot spring uses natural water from the mountain but it is too small, the breakfast and the room are nice. And the most important point to improve is that the vending and washing machines should not be put it next to the smoking area

loveliest kindest staff. really cool cafe in the lobby which is a beautiful mid century modern design that's part cafe, part opulent old library, part work area, and part lounge in the back. cafe has really high quality drinks and desserts and guests can get coffee for 300 yen from 9-11am and otherwise 20% off the rest of the day. onsen is super nice with 4 pools and a dry sauna. wifi decent but weak security if that matters for your work downside: pretty extreme unpleasant smell in room and hallways. not sure what word to use but maybe like seaweed - sort of like food and sort of like dirty water. but at least you could open your windows to air your room out. upsides and price were so good i could not dwell on this too much since i was able to address the smell by opening a window. otherwise would have given 5 stars tho

I did not have a good stay here. The hotel advertises a hot spring within their hotel, but what they fail to address is that if you have tattoos you're not welcome. Its literally the reason I booked the hotel. Beppu is supposed to be more open to foreigners with tattoos. To add further to this, as I'm getting ready to check out I have the manager come to my door when it's 10:01 to make sure I'm leaving. Check out is 10:00 I literally had my bags and heard a knock as I was just about to leave my room. Most unwelcoming hotel I've ever stayed at in Japan and definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Do not stay here if you have tattoos.

Centrally located, only 2 minutes away from the main station and about 10 minutes away from the bus station. Other comments mentioned old carpets and rooms but it looks like the hotel has been under some recent renovation. There was no funky smell in our room as reviews said, and the lobby is very modern. They have lockers for your luggage for free and have a lovely coffee shop with plenty of space to work from in the ground floor. The person in the reception was just lovely and so kind

Personal opinion as a Asian female solo traveler. Great location: around 5 mins walk from Beppu station. There are a lot of restaurants and 2 Lawson nearby. It's super easy to have access to food. Their lobby cafe also serves good coffee.Exterior: I heard they renovated the hotel recently, so the building and rooms and onsen all look new and classic.Room: clean, neat, a bit small but acceptable. Especially appreciate that there is an air purifier in the room without prior/extra request. Amenities facilities: You name it, they have it. More than just basic amenities. Especially appreciate ice maker on the 4th floor and self-service of skin products on the 1st floor, they have good sunscreen. Front desk: They don't speak much English, but they really try their best. Wonderful hospitality. Especially the elderly staffs. Super friendly and welcoming.Overall, it is more than a nice option for a budget hotel. If ever stop by Beppu in the future, i would be happy to stay again.

Hotel Arthur Beppu is clean and well equipped. Your usual Japan hotel. Parking is also free but they only issue the complimentary ticket once per day. So if you go in and out multiple times a day, you have the pay the rest yourself.

Response from the property

Mr./Ms. Randy Ngatimin Thank you very much for using our hotel. We are also honored that you praised the cleanliness of the hotel and the comprehensiveness of our facilities. We also appreciate your helpful comments regarding parking ticket usage. We look forward to seeing you again.
