Frequently asked questions about Nerja

When is the best time to visit Nerja?

The best time to visit Nerja is from May to June and September to October, when temperatures are warm and rainfall is low. July and August are the hottest and driest months, ideal for beach days but very busy. November through February are the coolest and wettest months, with more rain and fewer visitors. The famous Nerja Cave Festival, held in July, is a well-known cultural event if you visit in summer.

Which area should I stay in in Nerja?

Stay near the Balcón de Europa for the classic seafront promenade and easy access to the old town's shops and restaurants. The Burriana Beach area suits those wanting to be right by the sand, with several featured hotels like Nerja VG Hostal Boutique and Hotel Puerta del Mar. For a quieter, more local feel, the streets around Calle Granada and Calle Ánimas offer a central base within walking distance of everything.

What are the must-see attractions in Nerja?

Start at the Balcón de Europa for sweeping sea views, then explore the Fundación Cueva de Nerja, a vast cave system with impressive formations. Relax on Playa Burriana, the main beach, and stroll through Parque Verano Azul, a seaside park tied to the famous TV series. For nature, hike the Cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo for dramatic coastal scenery, and visit the Museum of Nerja to understand the town's history.

What day trips can I take from Nerja?

Full-day tours from Nerja head to the Alpujarras, a scenic mountain region with white villages, and to Granada, where the Alhambra is the main draw. Another tour goes to the Caminito del Rey, a dramatic walkway along cliff faces. If you prefer the coast, a trip to the historic city of Málaga is a well-known option, with its cathedral and Picasso museum. These trips each take a full day, so plan accordingly.

How many days do I need in Nerja?

Plan 2 to 3 days for Nerja. In two days, you can visit the Balcón de Europa, relax at Playa Burriana, and explore the Museum of Nerja. With a third day, add the Fundación Cueva de Nerja and the Cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo. If you want to see the Cascada de Maro or the Aqueduct Águila, allow an extra day. A day trip to Frigiliana would need one more day.

Honestly there is nothing to fault! What a lovely stay we had at VG Boutique. The staff were so friendly and helpful! The hostal is spotless from top to bottom, especially the rooms! The view from the terrace is just lovely and the roof terrace is a bonus especially when the sun is out. The swimming pool and sunbed area is a lovely spot to relax. The hostal is in a perfect location, just a few minutes walk away from the main town and tapas bars. We will definitely be coming back whenever we next visit Nerja and would 100% recommend anyone to stay here :) Thank you!

We had a very lovely stay at the VG Hostal Boutique. The location is wonderful - really close to the center but just outside the hubbub. Both on the phone and in person, the people we dealt with were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was quite spacious and perfectly clean. The bed and linens were so comfortable, and the shower was terrific - great water pressure! We really appreciated the ability to park onsite for a small additional charge. Would definitely stay again.

This place is gorgeous! We had a lovely room with terrace overlooking the pool - huge bed, fabulous shower and spotlessly clean. Just minutes from everything that beautiful Nerja has to offer. The pool area is stunning either plenty of sun loungers and there’s also a rooftop area with tables and chairs and a few sun loungers. Added bonus of an outside shower to cool down! Perfect place e for your morning coffee. The property has underground parking which was well worth the 12€ per night. The staff was so friendly and helpful - thank you Virginia and Paco 🙂 This was our first time to Nerja and it will definitely not be our last. This hotel is 💯 totally recommended.

Very accomodating staff, we left our key card at a wedding venue in the hills and the staff were so incredibly helpful in the middle of the night to ensure we got back into our room. The rooms are beautiful and modern, and the location is so central. Highly recommend

This is the most perfect place to stay in Nerja - could not fault a thing. The location is excellent you are 2 minutes away from all the main restaurants without having the noise element disturb you - it is extremely peaceful and quiet around the pool and within the rooms. The staff are brilliant and are well accommodating. Rooms are cleaned everyday. There is no food, but this is not a problem as you want to be going out trying all the restaurants anyway - but there are plenty of shops nearby and the hotel are happy to give you cutlery to make sandwiches etc if needed. Must stay - would recommend this to anyone. We got engaged whilst we were in Nerja and I could not have picked a more perfect hotel to be staying in.

I booked this accommodation on basis of photos and great reviews on website. However as holiday got nearer I was a bit concerned that it may have a hostel vibe. Nothing could be further than the truth! The room was big, bed comfortable, bathroom modern and everything was spotlessly clean. Our room faced onto road but was very quiet. Other rooms had terraces which overlooked the lovely swimming pool. The roof terrace had lovely view of sea. Location was fabulous…. within walking distance of bus stop where we travelled from Malaga and the centre of Nerja. Staff were also very helpful and informative. Just loved this place and won’t stay anywhere else when I return to Nerja.

My daughter and i have recently checked out of this Boutique Hostel in Nerja we stayed two nights and we also had 3 nights in Granada it’s a fabulous facility completely brand new everything is spotless we had a room with a balcony and a street view but regretted not paying a bit extra to have the view of the pool or sea on the 2/3 floors and a terrace but it was fine we were able to use the roof which had subbed and tables and chairs - there is no food or cooking facilities just a coffee machine which is fine just meant we had to have breakfast and dinner in town didn’t need lunch it is so central only a 10 min walk to the Balcon view point and very close to lots of cute little shops and bars loved Nerja and would defo come back and yes would use this accommodation again however if you didn’t want to eat out all the time you might want an apartment they also provided towels for the pool which was spotless
