This is a beach front hotel with limited access to the very rocky not swimmable beach, if you want to have a beach day you will need to go to a beach at the next door hotel about 700m from Hoshinoya. Amenities are somewhat basic. Service is ok at best, being the front desk/reception the areas with greatest opportunity for improvement. Staff is young and although friendly and attentive, they are inexperienced and with very limited communications capabilities if you dont speak Japanese. There are 2 restaurants and a cafe. The cafe is somewhat of a tour sight seeing stop and you will get many people getting off buses to have a snack there at the terrace, so there goes the peace and exclusivity. Food at the restaurants is very good with some typical Okinawa dishes Pool is beautiful although there is no pool service of any kind, even you have to manage the shades for the pergolas. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Check out is at noon and there is no late check out options and you need to leave the premises at 2pm, you cant stay longer even if you had been a long week guest, for a “5 star” hotel this seemed very strange to me. Architecture is beautiful and Japanese esthetics amazing Again, an ok experienced but probably wont come back. From a pure price-performance perspective its not worth your money comparatively to other Japanese hotels across the country

The hotel is beautiful and the staff is great. Banta Cafe is amazing. However, The hotel is lacking certain things. Despite being a 5-star hotel, it lacks the beachfront facility where guests can relax on sun loungers under umbrellas or shades with F&B services. From each room, it would be nice to have a direct pathway to the beach. I also didn't expect that there would be so many kids. The pool was super noisy. It would be nice to have a pool for families and another pool for adults only. The ocean in front of the hotel is not swimmable as it is very shallow and it's full of rocks.

If you’re looking for a break from the busy pace of daily life, Hoshinya Okinawa is the perfect choice. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, offering stunning sunset views. The Italian restaurant is truly delicious, making your stay a delightful experience with nothing to complain about!

My wife and I just arrived back from our honeymoon, during which we spent several days at Hoshinoya Okinawa. We had an amazing time, but have found many controversial and conflicting reviews online. Given how well we enjoyed our stay, I feel I should write a review which summarizes and adds potentially good context for anyone else looking to stay. We spent our honeymoon at Hoshinoya in mid June, at the tail-end of Okinawa's rainy season in 2026. This did impact our vacation as we were hoping to do more on the beach--we still did a lot, but it wasn't very sunny. This is not Hoshinoya's fault, so they're not losing any points for this, and it had its silver linings, but keep this in mind when booking in general. You can and should do research online about Okinawa's rainy season before setting dates, especially if you plan to do a lot of activities where you'd prefer sunnier weather. I personally love rain and feel Japan (including Okinawa) is absolutely breathtaking in the rain. Likewise, the rain kept the island relatively temperate (still warm though), so anyone sensitive to heat like my wife may find that a nice silver lining. What we loved: - The staff were very humble, kind, professional, and hardworking. The service was amazing and we felt that all around. Easily a 5/5. - The location is great, especially if you like exploring the tide pools and don't mind the short walk to a sandier beach. My wife and I love more wild beaches where you can find more fish. If you like seeing fish in the water, more wild and less manicured beaches are likely to have fish as opposed to more manicured white-sandy beaches more commonly found in western-style resorts. For us, that's a 5/5 - for others it may be a let down. Plan accordingly. - The room and facilities are well kept, clean, and very beautiful. The resort is incredibly lush and well maintained. The rooms are beautiful, minimalistic, and if you can get a top level room, have breathtaking views. For our honeymoon, the resort really helped us retreat inward and spend quality time with each other. Another 5/5. - The food was very good, although a little pricey at times. You do get what you pay for though, I'd give it a 4.5/5, but wouldn't be upset if I had to round up to a 5/5. What we didn't like: - This is a kids-friendly resort (which was mostly fine for us), but during dinner it was common for kids to be screaming at Olu Grill. Olu is very echoey, so this actually made the noise worse and sometimes inhibited our conversations. We aren't opposed to having kids around, and at many points they were very cute, but in Olu specifically this was disruptive and inappropriate. I get that this is mostly on the parents, but some ground-rules could probably have been set to prevent this given the upscale nature of the resort. I can't really think of anything we'd change, largely because I feel we aligned our expectations to the location. More specifically, this is a Japanese-style resort (albeit one that is relatively accommodating to international/western tourists). I noticed that some of the negative reviews seemed to expect a more western-style resort experience. If you are expecting a western-style resort, I would temper your expectations or look elsewhere. We loved our time here and would come back.

★☆☆☆☆ We checked in, spent less than 10 minutes on the property, and immediately decided to leave. Despite management refusing to provide any refund, we knew there was no way we were spending our vacation here. This was one of the strangest hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the reception felt cold, awkward, and uncomfortable. Rather than being welcomed as guests, we were immediately introduced to an array of unusual rules and expectations. The entire experience felt more like checking into a controlled compound than a luxury resort. The architecture may be unique, but to us it wasn’t beautiful—it felt like a concrete bunker or fallout compound. There was nothing warm, inviting, or luxurious about it. The atmosphere was sterile, isolated, and frankly unsettling. The room was another major disappointment. The views were nothing like the marketing photos led us to expect. Combined with the stark concrete design and lack of warmth, it immediately reinforced that this property was not what had been advertised. The cleanliness was also below what anyone should expect from a property charging luxury rates. It certainly did not meet five-star standards. Even more surprising was the complete lack of amenities. For the price, there is very little to do, limited dining, and few of the services or conveniences that define a true luxury resort. Everything about the property feels intentionally restrictive rather than guest-focused. The most disappointing part was management’s response. After explaining our concerns almost immediately upon arrival, there was no attempt to make things right, no meaningful accommodation, and no willingness to provide even a partial refund. We were simply told that we would be charged in full. We’ve stayed at exceptional hotels throughout Japan—including the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo, Four Seasons Osaka, and HOTEL THE MITSUI Kyoto—and this property isn’t in the same league. Calling this a five-star luxury resort is, in our opinion, misleading. If you’re looking for genuine luxury, attentive hospitality, beautiful accommodations, and a relaxing resort experience, look elsewhere. HOSHINOYA Okinawa felt more like an exclusive compound with rigid rules than a welcoming luxury hotel, and it was the only hotel during our trip that we couldn’t wait to leave.

We had an amazing stay here with our two year old in Feb. The heated pool is open year-round and has a large lap pool area that was perfect for my little one. Having a swimsuit dryer in the changing room was nice, and the complimentary cookies and tea at the lounge by the pool were a bonus. The rooms are very spacious, and I loved that the bedroom doors could be closed off for toddler naps. The bed was low enough that I didn't worry about anyone falling out, and they thoughtfully provided a diaper pail along with kids' shampoo, body wash, and slippers. Regarding dining, the restaurant was well-equipped with bibs and high chairs, though the menu was the same every day and service was very slow. In-room dinner we had was pricey, but we found the portions at Oru Grill to be large and very reasonably priced. The beach right out front is quiet and clean, with convenient wash stations to rinse off sand. It was a perfect trip - except for a heavy traffic coming back from the aquarium. Regardlessly I highly recommend this place for families with toddlers.

Our stay at Hoshinoya Okinawa was overall a very enjoyable experience, with a few minor hiccups along the way. The hotel itself is certainly  interesting and unique. Its secluded location gives it a peaceful and exclusive atmosphere, perfect for those looking to disconnect and relax away from busy tourist areas. One of the highlights was definitely the rooms overlooking the sea. Waking up to uninterrupted ocean views and hearing the sound of the waves throughout the day created an incredibly calming environment. The design of the hotel blends beautifully with the natural surroundings. The spa experience also deserves special recognition. The massage by Ms. Yuki was exceptional — truly one of the best treatments I have had. She was extremely professional, attentive, and highly skilled. There were, however, a few small drawbacks. Due to the secluded nature of the property, dining options are somewhat limited, especially for longer stays. Having more variety or additional casual dining choices would improve the overall guest experience. Despite these minor inconveniences, Hoshinoya Okinawa remains a beautiful and distinctive resort that offers tranquility, stunning sea views, and excellent hospitality.

Our stay was amazing. The room was amazing especially the view from the balcony. We got breakfast in our room twice because it was so good japanses breakfast. It was also really quiet couldn't hear anyone and only hear the ocean when you're outside. They have cart service to take you to different parts of the resort. There's free parking id recommend renting a car. When we come back we'll definitely stay here again.
