Countless rules. No applying sunscreen by the pool, no snorkeling at the beach (even though snorkelling tours are offered by the hotel). You have to pay for sun loungers. The staff is poorly coordinated, slow, and lacks a service-oriented mindset. Nobody speaks more than two words of English. Not equipped for international guests. The building itself is old, though reasonably well-maintained. The beach is beautiful, but its use is very restricted. I cannot recommend booking a stay here.

It's alright. You can't get a full night off sleep because they will start leaf blowing in the morning, which could be a good thing because otherwise you would miss the breakfast because it ends at 9am. The food especially the breakfast buffet gets boring really quick, no change at all. The japanese restaurant had the exact same thing every day. The plants look awesome but it smells a little bit rotten. Absolutely no liniency with any hours, you can't enjoy a sunset from the infinity pool or sea because it closes before it. A lot of kids, and I mean a lot. Old hotel but a vibe. Every activity from the hotel is really really expensive. Cheapest thing is getting drunk from the supermarkets nearby. What really makes it ok is the personal, everyone is really friendly and helpful, Whatever you need, just ask them and they will find a way.

The views from the hotel are great. That cannot be denied and you will see that from the photos. But for us, that is where the positives end. After spending 10 days travelling the cities of Japan we were looking forward to a relaxing final few days before flying home. Instead, we found a hotel which had 19 sunbeds to serve a hotel with over 300 rooms. As a result you had two options, wake up at the crack of dawn and be one of ‘those people’ who race to a bed at sunrise, or pay (yes pay!) £18 per day to have a sunbed on their own beach! (The name Moon Beach Hotel makes this even more laughable). On top of this? Breakfast finishes at 9:30 - but they actually take last orders at 9:10. The hotel itself is tired and old and if you drive to the hotel - you have to pay to park! Awful experience, will be spreading as far and wide to as many as possible - do not book this hotel.

Amazing 50yo hotel located in the heart of Onna. This is not only a place to stay but also a big part of Okinawa tourism’s history. We had a beautiful spacious room ocean view, the amenities were great and the staff did an amazing job at keeping everything spotless! Highly recommend!

We had wonderful time in Okinawa during our stay at Moon Beach Resort. Moon Beach is located in Onna, we found it to be a compromise between airport accessibility (thanks to toll speed highway) and oceanarium trips. Hotel itself isn’t new, but it is very well maintained and I personally think its architecture is timeless. Atriums are gorgeous, sea view and access is great. Food is good and plenty on the display, if I were to pick a favourite, those would be egg benedict for breakfast and crab phalange for lunch. Receptionists are helpful, they showed us a rapid bus schedule for 1 hour access to Naha and back, also ordered us a taxi when we asked. Overall cost of additional activities was satisfactory, we went for snorkelling. Downsides is beach working hours — 9 am to 5 pm. For us northerners UV at 9 am is pretty strong, they should open the beach and give beach towels at least an hour earlier.

The white sand beach is amazing, and the two pools are so refreshing. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor pool because it had a comfortable water temperature and a panoramic view. The hotel grounds were huge and lush with greenery. The architectural design was unique and made me feel relaxed. Watching the sunset with a glass of wine at the bar was a truly memorable experience.

Overall, our stay at Moon Beach was a great experience, with friendly + helpful staff, in a very cool late MCM building with heaps of history and amazing vintage design features, and a large spacious room with heaps of amenities and a great view. The beach is also stunningly picturesque, and I'd advise paying extra for the 'Residents' Club' access that gives you a parking space, inclusions like sunbeds + umbrellas, and discounts on bars + restaurants. A couple of detractors that are definitely worth mentioning: 1) the beach staff are VERY VERY VERY pedantic about "safety", so if you even THINK about bringing a snorkel into the water, they'll sprint over to you and make you put it away. I literally cannot understand how somebody could drown in waist-deep water with an active lifeguard on duty, but if you try to do anything fun at the beach or in the pool, you'll get pulled up on it immediately (worth mentioning that you can swim with a snorkelling mask on and that's ok... but you can't use the snorkel unless you have a life vest on... I don't really get it). 2) I'm vegetarian and maybe 95% of the food at breakfast and lunch is NOT vegetarian, even if it's labelled as being so.... things like a dish being called "stir-fried eggplant with chilli" is actually stir-fried eggplant with pork mince (and a little bit of chilli), or "sautéed tofu with green beans and onion" is actually tofu with chicken chunks mixed throughout. Also every single egg dish has dashi or bonito flakes added to it. I unfortunately only learnt this lesson after taking the first bite of a couple of dishes and then having to politely spit it out. If you have any dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, halal, shellfish allergy, etc etc) you will find it nearly impossible to eat at the on-site restaurants. If you can navigate the food at the restaurants and don't mind spending your time at the beach as if you were a 5-year-old child, the rest of the stay is very pleasant! Also, while the gym is kinda run-down, it's an anabolic environment with actual free weights and proper brand-name equipment. Definitely the best hotel gym I've used in terms of actually being able to work out.

The structure of the hotel is old, but the rooms have been updated and were very comfortable and new. I absolutely loved the retro charm of the place and the common areas such as the atrium pool and inside courtyard area were beautiful spaces. What the marketing doesn’t show is the vast open spaces at this hotel, the stunning landscaped gardens and the art-spaces such as artist in residence and exhibition space. I was blown away by this and enjoy a fantastic painting workshop with the artist who focuses on the local flora and fauna of Okinawa. The best point about this hotel is the staff. They are all incredibly lovely. Lisa and another lady name starting with H on front desk especially were so amazing, very helpful! One night there was an error with our dinner and the chef personally came to apologise. He replaced our meal with a local menu which was incredible and after eating he said the bill was on him as a gesture of apology. I was truly touched by this gesture of kindness. Areas for improvement: the kitchen being closed outside of designated times. If you want food at 10am for example, no chance. Also nowhere to buy drinks near the pool and beach. Food options are not great and the buffet is really mediocre. Also, I would expect their approach to sustainability to be better on an island like this. There is an overuse of plastic, especially single use such as straws and each tiny piece of cake at the buffet being individually wrapped. Really no need for that. I do worry where all this plastic is going. Beach is smaller than it looks. Can’t swim, very shallow full of seaweed and dead coral. Very quiet. Very strict lifeguard: no throwing a ball, no jumping, splashing, laughing it seems. We were using an empty bottle to collect water and build a sandcastle -he removed it. No standing on inflatables. No swimming outside of the fenced off area. However, from what I’ve seen this seems to be an island-wide thing, not limited to here. Local area: really not much to see and do outside of the hotel.
