Oakwood Premier Phnom Penh

The best time to visit Phnom Penh is from November to February, when temperatures are milder (31°C highs) and rain is scarce, especially in December and January with only 2-6 rain days. March and April are hotter and drier, but April marks the start of the rainy season. From May through October, expect heavy daily downpours and high humidity, with September being the wettest month. The dry, cooler months are ideal for exploring the Royal Palace and other sights.

Stay in Daun Penh, the central district around the Royal Palace and riverfront, ideal for first-timers and sightseeing. Chamkarmon, south of the center, suits those wanting a quieter, more residential feel with easy access to cafes and embassies. For a resort-style stay, Chroy Changvar across the river offers a calm, green setting. The Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra and Palace Gate Hotel are in Chamkarmon and Daun Penh respectively, while Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel sits in Chroy Changvar.

The Royal Palace of Cambodia is the city's top sight, with its ornate architecture and Silver Pagoda. Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum offers a sobering look at recent history. Wat Phnom Daun Penh is the namesake hilltop temple and a peaceful spot. The National Museum of Cambodia houses a fine collection of Khmer art. Independence Monument stands as a central landmark, and Sisowath Riverside Park is a pleasant walk along the river.

The full-day tours from Phnom Penh go to Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Ta Prohm in Siem Reap, with an option for an Angkor Wat sunrise visit. These are the main day trip destinations offered. If you prefer staying closer, well-known trips include the Mekong River islands and the former capital of Oudong, though these are not part of the listed tours.

Plan 3 days for Phnom Penh: one for the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, one for Tuol Sleng and the National Museum, and one for Wat Phnom and the riverside parks. If you want to add a day trip to Angkor Wat, allow a fourth day. Two days would feel rushed for the main sights.
