The best time to visit Shenzhen is from October to December, when temperatures are mild (21-29°C) and rain is scarce, with only 4-10 rain days per month. January and February are also pleasant and dry, though slightly cooler. Avoid June through September, the hottest and rainiest stretch, with 25-27 rain days monthly and high humidity. Spring (March to May) is warm but increasingly wet, so plan for showers if you go then.
Stay in Futian for central access to parks and the Shenzhen Convention Center, or Luohu for the old city vibe and easy border crossing to Hong Kong. Nanshan Shekou suits those wanting a seaside, relaxed feel with Sea World nearby. Huaqiangbei is for electronics shoppers and tech enthusiasts. The Langham, Shenzhen and Shenzhenair International Hotel are in Futian, while Sunshine Hotel is in Luohu and Raffles Shenzhen is in Shekou.
Shenzhen Central Park is a large green space in the city center, ideal for a stroll. Lizhi Park offers a classic urban park experience with a lake and pavilions. Lianhuashan Park provides a hilltop view of the city skyline. Shenzhen Safari Park is a major zoo with a wide range of animals. Sea World is a waterfront complex with a distinctive ship-shaped structure and dining options.
The full-day tours from Shenzhen go to Dapeng Peninsula, where you can see the ancient fortress, relax on the beach, and visit Yangmeikeng. Other tours focus on the city itself, covering tech, culture, and shopping. For a classic day trip, Hong Kong is a short ride away, and you could also head to the nearby city of Guangzhou for its historic sites and food. A day trip needs an extra day.
Plan 3 days: one for Shenzhen Central Park and Lianhuashan Park, one for Lizhi Park and Sea World, and one for Shenzhen Safari Park. If you add a day trip to Dapeng Peninsula, make it 4 days total.
