I stayed here four nights at the end of August and I was really impressed with the service. Everybody knew my name, from the guys at the valet to the reception and the concierge, and they were all very friendly. The concierge helped me with a lot of things. They even booked a private yacht for me to go out into the archipelago, and that was top class as well. My room had a water view, it was big, very clean and comfortable. The hotel has several restaurants, so you have variety. I had dinner at Verandan, which does the smörgåsbord, and it was very good, and breakfast was also at Verandan every morning, buffet style with a lot of fresh options. I also used the spa, which is big for a hotel spa, with an indoor pool, a heated pool, sauna and steam room, and the therapists were excellent. The location is also very good. I walked to Gamla Stan and saw most of the main sights without needing a taxi. Highly recommended.

The Grand Hôtel Stockholm is one of the city’s most iconic luxury hotels, located right by the waterfront and just a short walk from Nationalmuseum. Its location is probably one of the best in Stockholm, with views over the harbor and easy access to Gamla Stan and central attractions. The building has a classic, elegant style and feels very historic, but inside it’s well maintained and modern where it matters. It’s known for hosting international guests, celebrities, and even Nobel Prize laureates during the awards week. Even if you’re not staying there, it’s the kind of place that adds a lot to the atmosphere of the area — especially when you walk along the waterfront nearby in the evening.

Twenty years ago I stayed at the Grand and swore never to return, on account of the beds, which bore the divots of a thousand previous occupants, like archaeological sites one is expected to sleep in. One keeps such vows longer than one intends. Vows are like that. In the intervening years my family and I wandered—the Lydmar, until it sagged; then Ett Hem, which is spectacular. So: back to the Grand, warily, the way one returns to an old flame who has since acquired money and posture. The beds have recovered. Fully. Miraculously. The rooms are much more modern. Whatever was done to them, I suspect it was expensive and Swedish. And then there was the front door steward, who unprompted, and with the gravity of a man performing a state function drove me to the local IKEA in a souped-up golf cart. I have been chauffeured in many things. Nothing has matched the dignity of arriving at a flat-pack furniture emporium at speed, in livery-adjacent style.

Review of Grand Hôtel Stockholm I stayed at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm and found it to be a truly luxurious property from the moment of arrival. The hotel exudes elegance, with a grand entrance, attentive staff, and beautifully maintained public areas. One observation about Stockholm itself is that the city was very quiet on Sunday, and international dining options appeared somewhat limited compared to other major European capitals. The highlight of the hotel was the room design. The interior designers have done an exceptional job of creating a feeling of space, comfort, and luxury without requiring an oversized room. The room was divided into two functional areas by a partial wall extending from the ceiling. One section contained the bed, bedside tables, and lighting, while the second served as a sitting and work area with a sofa and executive desk. The use of lighting was particularly impressive. Each section had its own chandelier, complemented by multiple spotlights, creating a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. The curtains were cleverly designed to extend from floor to ceiling, giving the impression of much higher ceilings and making the room feel considerably larger than its actual size. The executive desk was thoughtfully planned, with a side panel containing all electrical and charging connections. An international travel adapter was conveniently provided in one of the desk drawers, a small but highly appreciated detail for international guests. The room also included a coffee machine and electric kettle. The bathroom was exceptionally spacious and luxurious. It featured a large bathtub, a separate walk-in shower, excellent water pressure, and high-quality fixtures throughout. Toiletries were generously provided in three separate locations: on the vanity counter, around the bathtub, and within the shower area. Two bathrobes were provided, and the quality of the towels was outstanding. The air conditioning performed well and maintained a comfortable room temperature throughout the stay. Guests staying in front-facing rooms are rewarded with magnificent views of the waterfront, which further enhances the overall experience. In summary, what impressed me most was not the size of the room but the intelligence of its design. Every detail appeared carefully considered to maximize comfort, functionality, and the feeling of luxury. Grand Hôtel Stockholm is an excellent example of how thoughtful interior design can transform a room into a truly memorable guest experience. Breakfast was matching the class

Quiet luxury on the waterfront, looking straight across to the Royal Palace. Boat horns echo softly across the harbour while ferries and yachts glide past — the Swedish archipelago beginning at your feet. The water-view rooms are the ones to request. Classic, calm and private. You are left in peace. Lina in reception set the tone from the first moment: warm, precise and discreet. This is Stockholm at its most refined — history, water and understated elegance, without noise or interruption.

I had a lovely stay at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm while attending the World Psychiatric Association Congress. The setting is beautiful, with wonderful views over the waterfront, and the hotel has a sense of elegance and history that makes a visit to Stockholm feel especially memorable. Its central location made it easy to enjoy the city between conference commitments. I would be delighted to stay here again.
