AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked into the rolling foothills of the Orlické hory (Orlice Mountains) near Dobruška, Český Hobitín — the "Czech Hobbiton" — is a tiny, hand-built hobbit village that feels plucked straight from Tolkien's Shire. Three round-doored burrows nestle into the grassy slope alongside a hobbit-style inn and a quirky garden, all created by one passionate fan on the private grounds in front of his family home. It is not a polished theme park but an intimate, eccentric passion project, and that rough-hewn charm is exactly what makes it worth the detour.↗↗
Built almost entirely with his own hands between 2012 and 2017, the settlement is billed as the first hobbit village on the Northern Hemisphere. Today it is also a genuine film set: the creator's own fan movie Stíny Kraje was shot here in 2018–2019. Visits are free (voluntary entry), capped at a few people at a time, and always require booking ahead — the name itself flags it: "nutná rezervace" (reservation required).↗↗↗
