AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Klingender Wanderweg—literally the 'singing walking trail'—is a short, gentle themed path that runs through the beech woods around the Kyffhäuser Monument in Thuringia. Instead of distance records or hard climbs, it offers a charming twist: eight wayside boards carry the verses of old German hiking and homeland songs, inviting you to walk along and, if the mood takes you, sing them out loud.↗↗
Created on an idea from the Bad Frankenhausen women's choir and opened in June 2016 as part of the 120th-anniversary celebrations of the Kyffhäuser Monument, the trail threads past the Unterburg (lower castle) ruins and through the forest to the great monument tower. Visitors call it easy and family-friendly—a pleasant woodland stroll with a musical, nostalgic theme rather than a demanding hike.↗↗↗
