AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Telašćica Nature Park sprawls across the southeastern corner of Dugi Otok island in Croatia's Zadar archipelago — a landscape of dramatic contrasts where towering sea cliffs plunge into deep blue waters, a hidden salt lake glimmers inland, and a vast sheltered bay dotted with islets has served as the Adriatic's safest natural harbour since time immemorial. Proclaimed a nature park in 1988, Telašćica covers 70.50 km², sixty-four percent of it sea, and rewards visitors with hiking trails, free-roaming donkeys, world-class viewpoints, and one of the most striking coastlines anywhere in the Mediterranean.↗↗
Three Phenomena That Define the Park
Telašćica's identity rests on three natural wonders. First, the bay itself — one of the largest, safest, and most beautiful natural ports along the entire Adriatic. With 69 km of indented coastline, 25 small beaches, and six islets floating within the bay, it has been an irresistible anchorage for sailors since ancient times. The name Telašćica derives from the medieval Tilagus, referencing its resemblance to three connected lakes.↗↗
