AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Ganga Ji Soron Ji is a Hindu temple standing at the Haripadi Ganga ghat in Soron, an ancient pilgrimage town in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district. The temple faces the Budhi Ganga — a former channel of the River Ganges — and is the devotional heart of a site revered for over a thousand years as Shukarkshetra, the place where Lord Vishnu is said to have taken his Varaha (boar) form to rescue the earth from the demon Hiranyaksha.↗↗
What draws visitors here is not monumental architecture but a rare combination of mythic weight, living ritual, and an unexplained natural phenomenon: the waters of the ghat kund are believed to dissolve the cremated bones of the dead within seventy-two hours, a property that has defied scientific explanation and gives Soron its status as Moksha Dham — a place of liberation. Daily evening Ganga Aarti, a peaceful riverside atmosphere, and a calendar of major festivals keep this small town connected to a vast tradition of Hindu pilgrimage.↗↗↗
