Sri Sai Baba Temple

Rituals and the Rhythm of the Week

Aarti is performed four times daily in a traditional sequence: Kakada Harathi at dawn (around 5:15 AM), Akanda Harathi at midday, Doop Harathi in the evening, and Sheja Harathi at night — a ritual cycle that mirrors the devotional rhythms of the Shirdi Samadhi Mandir. The temple follows a split schedule on most days, opening roughly 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM and again from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM.↗

Thursday is the temple's signature day. Crowds swell manyfold — devotees describe long queues and an atmosphere charged with collective devotion. The temple holds a special Panchabhootha Aarathi pooja, distributes free annadanam (community meals) to everyone who comes, and hosts bhajan groups from across the twin cities singing from roughly 7 PM to 9:30 PM. Several regulars describe the harathi ceremonies as visually mesmerizing, especially the midday one when the entire sanctum glows with lamplight.↗

Beyond Thursdays, major festivals draw sizeable gatherings: Guru Purnima is celebrated with a multi-day utsavam, Vijayadashami marks Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi, and Ram Navami and Datta Jayanti are also observed with group recitations of the Sai Satcharitra, special homams, and community feasts.↗↗

Prasad, Seva, and Community Life

A prasad counter at the temple offers sweet halwa and other offerings that many visitors make a point of picking up after darshan. The temple's affiliated ashram, the Dr. Sai Kumar Vyadhi Nivarana Ashram, extends the saint's ethos of service into community programs: regular free meal distribution, low-cost medical consultations, blood-donation camps held quarterly, and spectacles distribution for those in need.↗↗

Devotees can book specific sevas (offering-rituals) — Sai Saptah, Gou Ksheera Abhishekam (milk abhishekam), Kumkum and Vibhuthi Archana, Pitru Paksha Puja, Homams, and Rahu-Ketu Seva — either in person or through the ashram's online registration. On special occasions like birthdays or wedding anniversaries, families arrange full-day ritual packages.↗↗

The Setting and How to Visit

The temple sits in Walker Town, the colonial-era name for Padmarao Nagar, a tree-lined residential neighborhood just north of Secunderabad Railway Station. It is roughly a ten-minute walk from the station's Bhoiguda exit, making it an easy add-on to a morning or evening visit in the city. The road leading to the shrine now carries the temple's own name — Sri Sai Baba Temple Road.↗↗

The immediate area around the temple is bustling, and on Thursdays a small informal market can spring up along the lane. A separate Trimbaakeshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva stands nearby on the main road; the famous Skandagiri Subrahmanya Temple on its hilltop is also within easy reach.↗↗

What Makes a Visit Memorable

Regular visitors often return with a quiet consistency — some families have been coming for four decades, attending every Thursday. They describe the temple as feeling more like an ashram than a commercial shrine: spacious enough to sit and meditate in front of the idol, well-maintained by a hands-on committee, and radiating what one reviewer calls positive vibes the moment you step in.↗

The combination of an unusual youthful marble image, stone-wall architecture, and the thunderous Thursday evening bhajan creates a worship experience that devotees here consider among the most spiritually satisfying in Secunderabad. If you are a Sai Baba follower passing through, it is widely regarded as a temple you should not miss.↗

About the Founder

Sadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Sai Kumar Babaji was an Ayurvedic physician and devoted follower of Shirdi Sai Baba who founded the Dr. Sai Kumar Vyadhi Nivarana Ashram in 1973 and established it in Padmarao Nagar in 1982. His guiding philosophy was holistic: using spirituality, Ayurveda, and naturopathy together for the well-being of body, mind, and spirit. The temple and the ashram remain connected, and an Ayurvedic dispensary he started continues to operate in the same neighborhood.↗↗
