AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tuin De Verwondering — the "Gardens of Wonder" — is a private landscape garden in the brink village of Den Hout in North Brabant, where more than three decades of patient planting have turned open farmland into a connected series of gardens threaded by large water features, hidden paths, sculptures and meditative corners. Far from a quick look-and-go attraction, it is an experience garden built around quiet, slowness and a deep sense of wonder at the seasons.↗↗↗
Created by gardener-artist Arjan van Dijk on the grounds of a restored farmhouse with a Flemish barn and his own atelier, the gardens express a personal, eccentric style that interweaves flora, fauna, water and art. The makers describe their ethos simply as "Zen, stilte en beleving" — being, zen, silence and experience — and they welcome visitors to wander without hurry, sit for a while, and let the place work its quiet spell.↗↗↗
