AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Store Mosse National Park is the largest bog landscape in southern Sweden, an almost surreal "bog sea" of open mire, forested islets and shimmering lakes that feels plucked from the far north and dropped into the heart of Småland. Listed on Google Maps as "The Great Bog"—a fitting translation of its name, Store Mosse, the "great marsh"—it is one of the country's most protected wetlands and the only national park in this part of the country.↗↗↗
For visitors, the appeal is wonderfully simple: a dense network of marked trails and boardwalks, many of them wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, lets you walk right out onto the soft, springy moss while cranes call overhead and, with luck, a moose drifts across the horizon. Start at the Naturum visitor centre, climb the birdwatching tower, and pick a loop to suit your legs—from a 500-metre fairy-tale trail for children to a four-hour circuit deep into the bog.↗↗
