AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Khao Phlu Ta Luang Meditation Centre is a small, working forest monastery perched on a low hill in Phlu Ta Luang subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chon Buri. It is not a ticketed sightseeing stop but a place of religious practice—a samnak patibat thamma—where lay Buddhists come to keep precepts, meditate, listen to sermons and make merit alongside a compact resident community of monks.↗
Tucked into the same green ridge as Phlu Ta Luang's other quiet hilltop temples, the centre keeps the unhurried atmosphere of a country retreat rather than a busy tourist wat. Its appeal is precisely that plainness: shaded grounds, a tight monastic routine and the chance to watch and briefly join genuine Thai Buddhist devotional life, far from the resort coast that Sattahip is often known for.↗↗
A living centre, not a landmark
The site is registered among Chon Buri's official Dharma practice centres—sites the Provincial Office of Buddhism lists specifically as places for lay meditation and precept-keeping rather than ordinary village temples. That designation tells you the priority here: quiet practice, instruction and merit-making, with the grounds arranged to support a disciplined monastic rhythm.
