AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Yeşil Ada, or Green Island, is a small lakeside village on Lake Eğirdir in Turkey's Isparta province, just 1.5 km from the town centre and reached today by a low road causeway across the water. Long known as Nis, it keeps an old-world charm of stone-based wooden houses, narrow lanes and a tiny fishing harbour, and it is widely considered the most attractive tourist quarter in Eğirdir.↗↗
What draws visitors is the relaxed atmosphere between the lake and the hills: a stroll through streets that once held both Greek and Turkish neighbourhoods, lunch of fresh lake fish at a waterside restaurant, and the 19th-century Aya Stefanos Church, the lasting landmark of the island's former Greek Orthodox community.↗↗

Green Island sits off Eğirdir's Kale (castle) promontory on the southern part of the lake, with the smaller, uninhabited Can Ada just beyond it. Until the mid-20th century the island was reachable only by boat; a land connection built in the 1950s—later extended as a causeway—linked it to the mainland and turned a quiet fishing neighbourhood into Eğirdir's tourism hub.
